Specialist fertility counselling in Ripon and online

Fertility struggles can take over your life in a way that’s hard to explain to anyone who hasn’t been there. The hope, the grief, the waiting, the putting on a brave face; it’s exhausting. I’m Gemma, a specialist fertility counsellor based in Ripon, and I’ve been through it myself. I know what it feels like from both sides.

Is this you?

Every pregnancy announcement feels like a punch in the stomach

You’re cycling through hope and devastation, sometimes in the same day

You feel isolated, even from your partner, even from people who love you

Anger, jealousy, shame, guilt – and then guilt about feeling those things

You’ve thrown everything at it and you’re exhausted by your own resilience

Whatever your journey looks like; IVF, unexplained infertility, pregnancy or baby loss, or the quiet grief of trying month after month, you don’t have to keep carrying it alone.

I’ve been there.

My own fertility journey was nothing like I imagined it would be. There were times I felt completely swept away; isolated, out of control, and like time was running out. I know what it is to sit in a waiting room willing good news. To hold hope and heartbreak at the same time.

That experience is part of why I do this work. I trained as a counsellor, went on to specialise in fertility counselling with the British Infertility Counselling Association (BICA), and I bring both professional expertise and genuine personal understanding to every session.

I’ve spoken about fertility and emotional wellbeing on BBC Radio York, and written for Army & You magazine, because I believe the more we talk about this, the less alone people feel.

How I can help

What our work together looks like

A space to say the unsayable
Whatever you’re feeling – the jealousy, the anger, the grief, the fear that it might never happen – you can bring it here. No judgement, no silver linings, no rush.

Support through every stage
Whether you’re at the start of the process, mid-treatment, facing a loss, or trying to figure out what comes next , I’ll meet you wherever you are.

Practical tools alongside the emotional support
We’ll work on strategies to manage the hardest moments, communicate with your partner, and find ways to live your life alongside the treatment rather than in service of it.

Sessions are £70, online or in person in Ripon.

“Working with Gemma has been an invaluable part of my IVF journey. When I came to her I didn’t know where to start or what to do with my feelings. Her understanding of the emotional complexities of IVF helped me navigate the challenges with confidence. Each session offered a safe space to express my fears and hopes, and to develop coping strategies. I’m deeply grateful for her support and wisdom.”
